Pre-Engineering with LEGO® (ages 5 - 7)
Let your imagination run wild with over 100,000 pieces of LEGO®! Build engineer-designed projects such as boats, bridges, mazes and motorized cars, and use special pieces to create your own unique design! Explore the endless creative possibilities of the LEGO® building system with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor. Jedi Engineering With LEGO® (ages 5 - 7)
Young Jedi will explore worlds far, far away and engineering principles right in front of them. Defeat the Empire by designing and refining X-Wings, R2-units, and settlements on far-flung edges of the galaxy. Imagination and engineering combine to create motorized and architectural projects such as energy catapults, shield generators and defense turrets. Lift Off! With LEGO® (ages 5 - 7)
Come explore a world of machines that carry us far above the ground! Students will build a variety of planes, helicopters, gondolas and other sky-bound contraptions as we explore concepts of flight and other engineering principles. Super Hero Engineering with LEGO® (ages 5 - 7)
LEGO® Super Heroes need your help to defeat the destructive forces of their evil arch-villains! Explore inventions such as Spider-Man’s web shooter and the Bat Wing. Learn what makes them not only Super Heroes, but Super Hero Engineers! Discover how these gadgets work using real world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture. Engineering FUNdamentals with LEGO® (ages 8 - 11)
Power up your engineering skills with Play-Well TEKnologies and over 100,000 pieces of LEGO®! Jedi Master Engineering with LEGO® (ages 8 - 11)
The Force is strong in this class. Build complex machines and structures based on the best designs from a galaxy far, far away. Projects include X-Wings, AT-AT walkers, Pod Racers, Star Destroyers, Cloud Cities, settlements, and fortresses. Play-Well’s Jedi instructors reinforce key engineering concepts such as gear trains, worm drives, pneumatics, eccentric motion and more as students tap into the powerful forces of imagination and engineering. Aerospace FUNdamentals with LEGO® (ages 8 - 11)
Learn the secrets of flight in Aerospace FUNdamentals! Launch rockets, build record- breaking aircraft, and create a working parachute! Design, experiment, and learn in this hands-on camp about the forces that can send a B-52 into the stratosphere, or allow a parachutist to fall safely to earth from 23 miles up. Robotics with LEGO® (ages 8 - 11)
Learn about building and programming robots using the LEGO® Mindstorms NXT system. In addition to having fun, participants learn about mechanical and software design, problem solving, and teamwork skills. Working in small groups, students will complete several projects and mini challenges through which they will learn how to control the robot to avoid obstacles, pick up and carry objects. Projects are structured to allow students to work in an open-ended, investigative environment while having fun. Location: Buchanan Park Recreation Center. Green Engineering with LEGO® (ages 8 - 11)
Design and build machines powered by alternative energy sources. Race solar cars, build a wind-powered electrical generation facility, enter the human powered vehicle competition, and invent a machine powered by stored elastic strain energy. Instruction will be provided by staff, but familiarity with LEGO® Technic is desirable. Location: Buchanan Park Recreation Center. Mad Science delivers a unique, hands-on science experiences for children that are as entertaining as they are educational. |
Mad Science Engineering Academy (ages 6 - 12)
Do you love to build, design and fix things? Put on your engineer’s hat for this exciting week of science activities. We’ll build catapults, bridges and domes. We’ll study how the human body is engineered to compete in sports. On the last day, you will get to experiment with all you have learned and build your own Mad Science creation. Mad Science Camp Eureka (ages 6 - 12)
Inspire the inventor and scientist in you during this week of discovery and invention. Investigate the awesome inventions created before modern science had really begun. Learn about Leonardo da Vinci and discover how his ideas predicted future inventions. Imagine finding yourself on a deserted island with only a few supplies. What better way to inspire your own creations? Add into the day a tsunami and a volcano and see how resourceful you can be using Ben Franklin's inventions as inspiration. We'll join the adventure to infinity and beyond on this fantastic day where science fiction meets science fact. As far back as Jules Verne and as recently as George Lucas, dreamers have explored what the future can hold. Many of those dreams are now reality. Mad Science Super Science Sampler (ages 6 - 12)
Explore five of the coolest branches of science on your way to becoming a certified Jr. Mad Scientist. Discover how birds fly, how bugs walk on water and learn what an owl eats as we dissect owl pellets in Biology; build towering structures and ingenious contraptions via Engineering; experiment with Newton’s Laws of Motion and perform the Great Tablecloth Tug during Physics; stir-up crazy concoctions that become candy, ice cream and sidewalk chalk in Chemistry; then pan for gems, create thunder and lightning and make your own volcano in Earth Science. Canvas Kids Camp (ages 5 - 8)
Canvas Kids is a one-of-a-kind art camp that offers our campers an opportunity to paint on canvas and acrylics while they create art in the style of artists from around the world. Whether it's a painting from Monet, Degas or Van Gogh, Canvas Kids will have our campers learning the styles, elements and principles of art and artists. Each day we'll present new projects in art or artist while guiding our students through the process of creating that painting in their own unique way. Location: Buchanan Park Recreation Center. Viva Mexico Camp (ages 5 - 8)
Did you know that Mexico has one of the biggest pyramids in the world? Do you like monkeys, dolphins, coyotes and flamingos? Come down to Mexico with us and learn about its mysterious Aztec legends, exotic plants and animals, and beautiful beaches. Students will paint with the vibrant colors of Mexico as they learn about its interesting people and treasures. Location: Buchanan Park Recreation Center. Youth Fishing Summer Day Camp
Evergreen Trout Unlimited (ETU) Fishing Camp provides expert instruction by ETU members on the basics and fun of fishing. ETU has been involved with teaching kids about trout and flyfishing i.e., running the 4th of the July Kid's Fishing Clinic at Evergreen Lake and organizing kids' fishing camps at the Buchanan Park Rec Center.

Youth Fishing Camp (ages 7 - 14)
Evergreen Trout Unlimited (ETU) Fishing Camp provides expert instruction by ETU members teaching the basics and fun of fishing: Fly tying, elementary entomology (study of insects), rod handling, casting a fly and understanding proper angling ethics. Camp includes fishing on the Buchanan Ponds, a free T-shirt and fly box with fly's, a picnic lunch, bottled water, and soda. Rods and flys are also provided. Please dress for the weather so bring sunscreen, a hat, a raincoat, and sun glasses. Space is limited. Location: Buchanan Park Recreation Center.
