Good News | Project Updates

Evergreen Park & Recreation District is committed to serving our community through thoughtful planning, responsive stewardship, and high impact projects. Guided by our Strategic Plan, we continue to invest in facilities, programs, partnerships, and infrastructure that strengthen community connection, promote active lifestyles, and ensure long term sustainability.  

This page highlights some of the progress and improvements that have taken place most recently across the District.

TAKING CARE OF WHAT WE HAVE

  • Repaired a contactor and fuse that were damaged from a power outage that occurred at Buchanan Park Recreation Center.
  • Made repairs to leaking plumbing and pipes at the Buchanan Park Recreation Center pool. 
  • Redid the fencing at the Henika Field dugouts to improve safety.
  • Added a generator to the Evergreen Lake House to minimize impacts on events and programs caused by outages from weather.
  • Completed fencing repairs and updates around various parks in the District this spring.
  • Added a new sidewalk on the north end of the Marshdale Pickleball courts to fully connect the pathway that now runs all the way around the courts. 
  • Xeriscaped and planted high tolerance vegetation at the Buchanan Park Recreation Center entrance to promote long‑term water conservation.
  • Replaced broken bricks under Wulf Pool windows. 

REBUILDING RECREATION

  • Planting trees and shrubs along the berm at Marshdale Park.
  • Built a rock retaining wall in the southeast corner of the Buchahan Ball Fields parking lot.
  • Asphalted front entry path to Marshdale Pickleball Courts.
  • Installed a new UV system at the Buchanan Park Recreation Center pool, improving the sanitization of the pool water, enhancing the ability to filter bacteria and viruses while reducing chemical use. 
  • Built new steps at the lower fishing area on the west end of the North Lake Trail to improve connectin from the fishing lot, eliminate social trails, and reduce erosion.
  • Installed a new variable frequency drive (VFD) on the indoor hot tub at Buchanan Park Recreation Center. This device adjusts the motor’s speed so it doesn’t run at full power all the time, helping the motor last longer and reducing long‑term maintenance costs

EXPANDING FACILITIES AND SERVICES

  • Began site preparations to prepare to install the footers for the future pavilion at Buchanan Park.
  • Began site preparations and drainage installation for the future skatepark at Buchanan Park. 
  • Held the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new pavilion in Buchanan Park on June 10th. 
  • Held the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new all-wheels skatepark in Buchanan Park on May 26th. 
  • Held the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new aquatics expansion at Buchanan Park Recreation Center on April 2nd. 
  • Added four (4) swan paddle boats to our available rentals at Evergreen Lake for users to enjoy.
